Brampton's banned speed cameras are now being used by Peel police

Ontario banned photo radar last autumn and paid municipalities to repurpose the hardware. Brampton got nearly $35 million for its 185 mothballed cameras, converted 35 into red-light cameras, and — per Mayor Patrick Brown — sent "a number of those cameras" to Peel Regional Police, where they are "used every day to aid in criminal investigations." No count, no locations, no data-sharing agreement or privacy assessment mentioned. The same announcement confirmed the City's own ALPR vehicle fleet grew from one to seven this summer.
